Questions & Answers - Frequently Asked Questions

TIP: Dating profile is like a resume - an excellent resume gets you an excellent job. An excellent dating profile gets you an excellent match.

ATTENTION: It is important to read all of the Q&A (FAQ) on this page before you begin creating your profile at Single2.com. While we manually review every single newly submitted profile and occasionally make corrections if and where we see it necessary, we immediately delete those registrations and profiles that are incomplete, absurd or downright abusive.

Once you fail to complete your profile properly and you then submit it, approval of both your photo and your profile will be delayed or it may be deleted. Therefore, PLEASE, check everything thoroughly before submitting your profile to us for approval. All undeleted incomplete profiles will be looked at a second time at the very end only after we approve all the perfectly written profiles. And please do not submit your photo(s) before your text profile shines. Your photo(s) will be rejected if your profile is incomplete in any way, even if your name begins with a lowercase letter! In some cases we may edit small details manually for you, but don't count on it. Be smart, be intelligent, check your spelling and show your future loved one that you care, that you've spent a lot of time taking care of your profile by making your profile shine.

QUESTION: How do I register and create my own profile?

ANSWER: 1. Click on "Join Us" button on the left hand side menu and you will be directed to the "Registration"  page where you have to choose your username, enter your email address twice, enter the alphanumeric code and to be at least 18 years of age and to select the "age box". Don't forget to read our "Terms of Use Agreement" and to select the box after you've read it.

2. When you're done with the "Registration" page, click on the "Register" button and wait for the email containing your username and your temporary password to arrive into your e-mail box.

Please see the next question to find out what to do next to have your profile visible.

QUESTION: What must I do so that my profile is approved and shows live on the web?

ANSWER: Now here's what you should do next (after you have registered with your username and received your temporary password via email):

1. Go to www.single2.com.
2. Login with your username and your temporary password (that was sent to you above in this email). You can change your password later or rather now. We recommend changing and remembering your password right away since it is not a recoverable password.
3a. On the left hand side menu find "My Home Page" button/link and click on it and then click on "My Account".
3b. Or click on "My Profile" and then on "Account Data".
4. Fill out all fields on that page and click "Submit". If you don't fill out all fields your profile will be deleted without looking at it. We do not enforce mandatory fields at this time. Change your password to one that you will easily remember!
5. Click on "About Me" and complete that form and submit (save) it.
6. Click on "More About Me" and complete/submit that form.
7. Do the same with "My Interests", "My Narratives", "My Partner" and, if desired, you can also enter your postal address, email address, phone, fax numbers on "My Contacts" in "Communicate" folder and fill out as much as you can (on these 4 particular pages) and then save (submit) all the info.
8. To submit your photo to your Single2.com profile click on "My Photos" and proceed on that page. DO NOT submit your photo(s) without completing your profile! Your photo(s) will be rejected if you do not complete and submit your profile first!

Also if you do not fill out all the important fields your profile will be deleted without us looking at it. We do not enforce mandatory fields at this time, so be sure you fill out all the necessary fields.

IMPORTANT: You must complete your profile, otherwise we will not approve it and it will not be showing live on the web. All or most incomplete profiles are deleted immediately upon our inspection.

TIP: Dating profile is like a resume - an excellent resume gets you an excellent job. An excellent dating profile gets you an excellent match.

QUESTION: I did not receive, lost or forgot my password.

ANSWER:
We can not send nor recover your password for you because we have no access to your password. The process is automatical and is done by visiting the following link:
http://www.single2.com/site/dating/forgot.en.html. If you are new to Single2.com and your password has not arrived then simply register again. Also see the next question.

QUESTION: I have registered (clicked on "Join Us" button), but the registration confirmation email has not arrived to my mailbox. In other words: I did not receive your email that contains my username and my temporary password. Can you please resend it to me?

ANSWER:
Did you wait for at least 15 to 30 minutes? If so, did you check your "Spam" folder? If you did both steps then all you can do is to register again, perhaps with a different (more reliable) email account. We can not send nor recover your password because every password is generated secretly and automatically by our system and no one has access to it. If your password gets lost or forgotten, - all you can do is to use "Password Recovery" link in the login box or in case of a new registration, - register again. It just takes 1 minute to register again.

QUESTION: I can not log in to my account. Why is it so?

ANSWER: It is most likely because your account was deleted due to extensive inactivity (3 or more months after your last login) or because you have not created your profile within the last 48 hours (2 days). If you are a member and your profile already exists and you are still having login issues then please go to the next question below.

QUESTION: Why was my profile deleted?

ANSWER: We delete all incomplete profiles and the following can also be the reasons for deletion of your account and profile:

- Not entering your name or city or any other mandatory data into your profile or registration.

- Repeating yourself in your profile. Posting repetitive text and abusing the system in any way.

- Posting your profile from a geographical location (a different country) that is different than that stated in your profile. Avoid posting your profile if you are far away from home on vacation or on a business trip. If you do so, please let us know the reasons and circumstances.

- Selecting unreasonably more options than the indicated limit allows.

- Writing outright lies and absurd in your profile. While some humour is great, you must make sure your profile is not a complete joke; and if it is - it will be erased and won't be recoverable.

- Selecting too many options than reasonable. For example if you are looking for a serious relationship, then avoid (do not) selecting also that you are looking for a short dating or one-night stand, or if you select that you are looking to have an intimate (sexual) relationship, then do not also select "Platonic relationship", etc.

QUESTION: After enabling cookies on my computer I am still having problems logging in (and/or creating an account). Please help!

ANSWER: It may be happening because you have Norton Internet Security or an equivalent installed and setup incorrectly. Single2.com are committed to the highest levels of consumer protection. However, the technology we use to create your shopping cart/basket (cookies, javascript, etc.), can sometimes be misclassified by your security software as a threat. We do not employ any technology that can harm your computer. If you experience difficulties adding items to your shopping basket (cart) or using our checkout, please adjust your security settings as per instructions below:

In Internet Explorer, setting the privacy setting (under Tools => Internet Options... => Security) to "Very High" or "Highest" prevents you from adding items to your shopping cart. The highest setting you can shop with us and many other stores is "Medium." Nearly all e-commerce sites require cookies to be set like this to function correctly.

Modify your security / firewall / anti-virus software settings

Security / firewall / anti-virus software can sometimes affect how browsers handle cookies. Please make sure you have cookies enabled in your software, or add www.single2.com to your "safe list" of sites.

Make sure you are in the "Web" tab. There may be several domains already listed in this area.
Click on the Add Site button at the bottom of the Web defaults window.

QUESTION: Do I have to submit my real name and my real surname (last name) into my profile?

ANSWER:
First of all - you must enter your real first and last name (surname). You don't have to enter your REAL FIRST NAME (given name) into the "First Name" field of your public profile. You can enter your NICKNAME there instead. Although, you are expected to enter your FULL REAL NAME (first name, middle name, last name) into your "Last Name / Surname" field (window). Regarding your LAST NAME (SURNAME) - you are expected to enter your REAL LAST NAME (family name, surname) into your account data. Your last name (surname, family name), along with your real first and middle name if entered in the "last name / surname" field, will NOT be displayed publically. NOTE: if you do not enter your last name (surname, family name) into your profile we may not be able to approve your profile at all. Profiles without any name or last name will be REJECTED and if not corrected within 24-48 hours, will be DELETED.

QUESTION: What are profile ad placement rules to prevent rejection of my ad profile?

ANSWER:
Capitalise proper nouns and the beginning of sentences only. Capitalise your Name's and City's first letter only. Submit your description once and in only one category. Do not post your contact information outside of dedicated area. Post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is you should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, repeated text, repeated letters (aaaaaa), to many dots (.......) etc. Similarly you should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. !!! and ???) in your profile, ad, topic titles, posts, forums, chat or anywhere else on Single2.com. Users consistently abusing this will be warned and may be banned or removed. Check your spelling - profile ads with many spelling and grammatic mistakes may not be accepted. And remember: we are a completely free service to you - if you don't have enough time and don't have enough interest in creating a proper profile that will get approved, then neither we (Single2.com) are interested in having you here, neither your future partner will be interested in reading your profile that is not written from the depth of your heart. So if you are really ready to look for that special someone, then make your profile shine.

TIP:
Dating profile is like a resume - an excellent resume gets you an excellent job. An excellent dating profile gets you an excellent match.

QUESTION: What are photo submission rules to prevent rejection of my photo(s)?

ANSWER:
Please read the photo upload agreement before uploading your photos. Remember that you have to complete your profile before uploading your photos, otherwise your photos will be rejected even if they meet the technical criteria.

QUESTION: Do you screen new members who join Single2.com?

ANSWER: Yes, we do screen our new members as much as we can, without invading their privacy, to prevent as many fake or even fraudulent sign-ups as possible.
We are doing everything we can with our shoestring budget to prevent imposters and scammers from joining as members and from hanging around Single2.com too much. What we do is, we manually screen every new joining member and approve only those members that we think are genuine. All others are deleted, some are banned by blocking their IP addresses. Due to enormous amounts of abuse, imposting and scams from most of West Africa and some other regions of the world, we have blocked entire countries from accessing our website. We have also blocked some satellite internet service providers IP addresses since too many scammers and imposters originate from those kind of sources. This is all done to protect you from hassle, imposters and scams. You will probably still get some, but we greatly diminish as much as we can any chances for the scammers and imposters from reaching you.

Do you know that 80% of online dating and personals services send private emails from fake profiles to encourage you to subscribe for a paying membership on their website? Do you know that so many dating and personals sites claim to have millions of members, but they actually have much much less? Recently we have visited a dating website that claimed to be 100% free (we had to register to browse and then to pay to communicate!) and they claimed to have over 1 million members. We counted their members from all over the world and the number we came up was just barely several hundred profiles. We are and will be honest with you - you can see the real number of our members. No gimmicks, no lies, no fake private messages and no fake profiles (we may create one or two test profiles for technical and screening purposes). Please note that you may get "spam" from other members or even from outsiders which we can not be in control of having such an open  and an absolutely free site. Please report such incidents to us if that bothers you, otherwise place them on "block" or simply delete that mail. Upon your complaint we will close any account and will erase a profile of a member who violates our terms of use agreement and other policies and instructions posted on Single2.com.

QUESTION: Why am I receiving those unsolicited "Nigerian Scam" messages into my Single2.com inbox? Isn't there a way to prevent this from happening? What should I do about it?

ANSWER:
Since Single2.com is a free and open site there's nothing we can do about preventing some dishonest people from sending unsolicited messages to other members. Technically it is almost impossible to prevent that. Please be warned to never respond to such messages. These kind of messages are sent by irresponsible people usually somewhere in Africa (in many cases in Nigeria) but also can be in other countries too. That is why such emails or letters are called "Nigerian Scam". If you go to their country to "collect" all those money you may be killed or robbed and you will never received all those promised millions. DELETE such messages from your Single2.com mailbox immediately or simply block those members from emailing you. We are closing such members accounts immediately after we find out that they were "spamming" other members.

P.S.: In the near future we will begin blocking IP addresses from certain locations and countries and that should eliminate many if not all of the "Nigerian Scams" you are receiving.

QUESTION: Why was my account closed?

ANSWER:
We will be closing all accounts that have not completed their profiles after 24 hours (1 day) or those that showed no activity (no login) for a substantial period of time. Please complete your profile within 24 hours to prevent your account from being closed. We do not have enough staff to check every profile every day for completeness. If you want to just freely browse and freely contact Single2.com members you are welcome to do so without creating an empty or half empty profile. Once you decide you want to register and to create a profile at Single2.com then please be serious about it and make your profile shine. Please note that all incomplete profiles will be deleted.

QUESTION: Why is my profile not approved yet? I have completed it and I have submitted my photo as well.

ANSWER:
We usually approve all profiles within 24 to 48 hours after they are submitted and COMPLETED. If we are away or if we are short of time it may take longer to have your profile approved.  Please check your profile out. Is it 100% complete? Are there fields that are not filled out? Your profile will not be approved especially if the following fields of your profile will be left empty (n/a):

I am a:   n/a
Seeking a:   n/a
For:   n/a
Name:  n/a
Age:  n/a
City:  n/a
Country:

 n/a

QUESTION: I have met all of your requirements and I have completed my profile and it is still unapproved after 48 hours or more. Why?

ANSWER:
We may have overlooked your profile (especially if you did not submit a photo along with your profile) and missed to approve it. Please accept our apologies and email us via our online contact form and we will urgently review your profile and will approve it if it meets the minimum criteria outlined in this website.

If your First Name or City does not begin from a Capital letter (Uppercase letter) then an approval of your profile will be delayed or even rejected. Therefore please always use the following rule:

Incorrect: name / city = john / london
Correct: Name / City = John / London

Also please note that we delete all incomplete profiles as early as within 24 hours after registration.

QUESTION: Why there are so few members on Single2.com?

ANSWER:
This website & service is totally free to everyone and therefore our advertising budget is limited. Please, if possible, place links and banners on your website or homepage and let us know about it. Unfortunately we will not be able to place a reciprocate link for most of you.

Also have you noticed our "member counter" on our Grand Foyer? It shows a true number of members (some of these members could have just joined or have their profiles hidden, - that is why the counter and the actual profiles number can differ slightly). Unlike many other dating sites we do not lie about how many actual members we have. Single2.com is under promotion and more members will join in the future. Being a very open site (immediate browsing, no need to register to browse, search and send an email), Single2.com is so much a part of the web as no other dating website.

QUESTION: I have submitted my photo(s) along with my profile. Why my photo and profile does not appear in "Featured Profiles" in Grand Foyer?

ANSWER:
We feature only a limited amount of members (between 4 and 100). We only may feature those members who's profiles "shine" - well centered good quality photo (such as a clear head shot or an artistic photo), a complete profile, no spelling mistakes, no all UPPERCASE text (except where necessary - at the beginning of sentence etc.). Most active (must login at least once a month) members with perfect photos and profiles will have a much better chance of being featured on Single2.com main page called Grand Foyer. Also we may feature your profile under a special agreement if such an agreement is made between you and us. For example if you want your profile and photo featured without waiting for a chance to be featured, you may contact us and we will feature your profile/photo for a certain fee for a certain period of time. Note: if your profile was selected and is featured and you would like us to remove your profile from featured profiles display then please contact us.

QUESTION: What kind of characters can my Single2.com username contain and what is the minimum and maximum length allowed?

ANSWER:
Your Member ID (username, user name) can be between 1 and 20 characters which includes all alphanumeric characters (letters of an English alphabet and digits 0 through 9) and the following symbols (note: the "@" symbol can not be used as an email address!): @#+$=&?

QUESTION: How do I completely remove (cancel, delete, close) my entire profile?

ANSWER: 1. Please go to www.single2.com and log in;
2. Click on "My Home Page" in the main vertical menu on the left;
3. Click on "My Account" under where your photo is or should be and scroll down;
4. Click on "Click Here" in "To completely remove your profile click here".

QUESTION: My inquiry (even after I repeatedly sent it) was not responded. Why?

ANSWER: We will not respond to inquiries that ask questions that are already answered on our website (click on the HELP button).

If after reading (and applying to your case) all of the above questions and answers you still have questions, need more help or have suggestions, please contact us. Please note that this is an absolutely free, no charge service and we have a very limited support capability. Contact us only if it is really necessary.

TIP: Dating profile is like a resume - an excellent resume gets you an excellent job. An excellent dating profile gets you an excellent match.
